Clerk to Governors

The Harbour Schools Partnership
On-site
Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom
£24,790 - £25,584 GBP yearly

Salary: NJC Grade C: £24,790 - £25,584 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern: These are part time, permanent positions working 50 hours per annum (approximately 1-2 hours per week) per school, 39 weeks per year.

We wish to appoint several highly motivated Clerks to provide effective clerking and administrative support to the Local Governing Bodies of several schools within the Trust.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing agendas in consultation with the Chair of Governors and Headteacher, taking and writing up the minutes and distributing documentation and other information to Governors.
  • Effectively managing information and administering meetings.
  • Providing advice to the governing body on governance, constitutional and procedural matters.
  • Ensuring the governing body is correctly constituted.
  • Managing information effectively in accordance with legal and Trust requirement.

At The Harbour Schools Partnership, we believe a Clerk to the Local Governing Body plays a critical role. You need to be a highly organised person with attention to detail. You will have general administration experience such as minute taking and meeting organisation and be able to demonstrate a diplomatic approach to communication.

Specific training on governance within a MAT will be provided through support of the line manager. Experience with clerking panel hearings would be an advantage. Local Governing Body meetings take place on site in the relevant school or virtually via Microsoft Teams, mostly in the evenings.

This is a hybrid working role which can be carried out from home, so it is essential therefore that the Clerk has access to a computer/laptop and internet. Attendance is required at four local governing body meetings per year per school/LGB, plus additional online Clerks termly meetings, as required.

To apply for this role please submit your application online; your supporting statement should outline your suitability for the post.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday 18th July 2025, interviews will be held week commencing Monday 21st July 2025.

All shortlisted applicants will be subject to an online search.

The Harbour Schools Partnership require all applicants to be eligible to work in the UK with no restrictions, as we are unable to offer sponsorship/work visas. You will be required to provide proof of Right to Work at interview stage.
