We are looking to appoint a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our friendly and forward-thinking department at Torbay Hospital. Whether you're newly qualified or an experienced consultant looking for a fresh start in the South West, we would be delighted to hear from you.
This is an exciting time to join our team. Recent investment in our facilities includes a new £5 million Endoscopy Centre, a £15 million Acute Medical Unit, and significant service development across our planned care group. You will be joining a cohesive team of nine consultant gastroenterologists who work collaboratively across inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy services, with a strong emphasis on mutual support, teaching, and quality care.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
Work closely with consultant staff in related specialities e.g. upper and lower GI surgery.
Contribute to audit within the speciality and research if they are interested.
Contribute to the training of trainee staff and medical students.
Undertake clinical and / or educational supervision of trainees.
Undertake CME/CPD according to the requirements of the Royal College of Physicians.
Actively contribute to clinical governance within our organisation

About You
You will be:
GMC registered with a CCT (or within 6 months of completion) in Gastroenterology and General Medicine
Independent in upper and lower GI endoscopy (OGD and colonoscopy)
A team player with a collaborative mindset
Committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
Willing to contribute to teaching, training, and governance activities

Qualifications
Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice)
CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine (or equivalent)
CCT (must be within 6 months of interview)
MRCP
Entry on Specialist Register either with CESR or European Community Rights
Teaching Qualification
Clinical Experience
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of Gastroenterology and GIM patients.
Broad experience in Gastroenterology
Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective gastroenterology
Willing and able to work to guidelines and group discussions
Training Endoscopic trainers course
Management and Administrative Experience
Ability to organise and manage priorities
Active interest in IT
Experience in audit and management in Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine
Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the department
Ability to demonstrate willingness to manage and lead clinical teams
Flexible approach
Ability to demonstrate leadership capability within multidisciplinary teams
Familiar with current structure of Health Service and recent initiatives and changes
Management course or qualification
Training / Research Experience
Proven ability to teach clinical and procedural skills
Ability to apply research outcome to clinical problems
Willingness and ability to contribute to departmental and Trust teaching Programme
Evidence of medical student teaching / supervision experience
Desire to continue to audit practice
Publications in peer reviewed journals
Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
