Become a key advisor, building strong client relationships across a range of sectors. You'll be instrumental in guiding clients through the complexities of building projects, from design and construction to maintenance and repair. with a particular focus on insurance claims for residential and commercial properties. We handle more than two-thousand UK-wide insurance losses every year and specialise in resolving claims for insurers, policyholders and their advisors.
This role offers a unique platform for the successful candidate to demonstrate their ambition and passion for customer service through the delivery of our exceptional work and commitment to client excellence.

As a Graduate Building Surveyor, you will:
• Provide advice on the design, construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of all types of buildings and sites.
• Undertake inspections, which involve acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys and defect investigations.
• Prepare reports, schedules of work and works specifications.
• Design and oversee works using recognised building contracts and adhering to current technical standards.
• Develop an understanding and apply other relevant legislations to all aspects of your work; such as health and safety, party wall, building regulations and planning.
• Ensure all work complies with the requirements of the Company’s administrative, personnel procedures and Health & Safety regulations.
Gateley Smithers Purslow is a multi-disciplinary independent private practice established in 1978, who specialise in civil and structural engineering, building surveying, cost consultancy, architecture and planning, insurance claims, and heritage conservation.
The company includes highly skilled professionals such as Chartered Building Surveyors, Chartered Structural Engineers, and Architects, who operate across the UK within the insurance market.
The firm is committed to providing practical and workable solutions for building and infrastructure projects, serving a diverse range of clients in both the public and private sectors.

The person
What you’ll need:

A full UK driving license and access to a car is essential for this role. Regular travel to various client sites, often in remote locations will be .

A RICS accredited degree in Building Surveying, having graduated or receiving your degree qualification before August 2025.

You will have the right to live and work in the UK. N.B. Due to changes in the UK Government’s minimum salary requirements for visa sponsorship, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this level of role.

Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to liaise with clients and work as part of a wider national team.

Excellent written communication and attention to detail to produce technical documents.

Methodical approach to problem solving.

Experience of working to deadlines

Knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural and planning practices and procedures. Supported by an awareness of the latest statutory requirements and technical publications.

Understanding of CDM Regs 2015, Party Wall and Building Regulation legislation.
