JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Product Development Engineer to join our team our team focused on high-performance pump lasers for use in optical amplifiers. The successful candidate will be responsible for assigned pump laser products from the definition phase through development to introduction into manufacture and subsequent support.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Work with product management to define specifications for new products.
  • Form productive working relationships with the chip development team to define performance and reliability requirements.
  • Collaborate with design and process engineers to develop products with appropriate consideration of manufacturability and DFX.
  • Lead the execution of assigned development projects, including planning, priming gate reviews and project tracking.
  • Work closely with the new product introduction (NPI) teams in remote manufacturing locations to ensure products are successfully introduced and meet committed performance, cost and timelines.
  • Plan and execute verification and qualification activities.
  • Provide technical support to the product as required after release.
  • Analyse product data to resolve issues and generate opportunities for improvement.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience in optoelectronic product development, including leading projects.
  • Good knowledge of laser physics and reliability engineering.
  • Understanding of processes used to manufacture optoelectronic devices.
  • High proficiency data analysis using JMP or similar packages with knowledge of design of experiments (DOE).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to interface with customers and work collaboratively in a multi-site environment.
  • Flexibility for regular travel to manufacturing sites in Asia to ensure successful product development and introduction.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO, Six Sigma) is an advantage.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions typical of a climate controlled and professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
