Structural Engineer

A well-established and forward-thinking civil and structural engineering consultancy based in Exeter is seeking a Structural Engineer to join their growing team. Established for over 30 years, the company provides professional engineering services nationwide, working with a diverse client base that includes private homeowners, developers, architects, commercial organisations, and insurers.

They undertake projects ranging from minor residential alterations to large-scale commercial developments valued at over £20 million. The team includes Chartered Engineers, experienced Design Engineers, and CAD Technicians, all supported by modern design technology and a strong administrative staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare structural designs and detailed construction drawings for a range of structures

  • Work on residential, commercial, and industrial projects including extensions, refurbishments, and new builds

  • Conduct structural surveys and site inspections

  • Produce calculations, specifications, and reports using modern structural design software

  • Assist in obtaining planning and building regulation approvals

  • Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders

  • Support project delivery, contract documentation, and site supervision

  • Potential to act as Principal Designer under CDM regulations and advise on party wall matters

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • 2+ years of experience in structural design (buildings sector preferred)

  • Progressing toward Chartership or recently Chartered (ICE or IStructE)

  • Proficient in structural software (e.g., Tekla, TEDDS, AutoCAD)

  • Strong communication skills and a problem-solving mindset

  • Capable of managing multiple projects independently and as part of a team
